Membership
LMSA is member-run, which means the people who turn up decide what the club does. Every member gets a vote, and any member can stand as an officer.
2026 dues
What it costs
One membership covers everything the club runs — racing, cruising, socials, seminars and monthly meetings. The membership year begins 1 January and dues are payable in advance for the full twelve months.

The by-laws define this as someone living six months or less of the calendar year in Seminole County or a county next to it. Residents of counties further out also qualify for the associate rate.

Before you ask
Common questions
Do I need to own a boat?
No, and a good share of our members don’t. Club members are frequently short-handed and looking for help — being a member is the fastest way onto other people’s boats. See crewing.
Can I race without joining?
Yes. The Wednesday Rum Race and the Jameson Sunday Race are open to members and non-members alike. Non-member boats are scored separately and are not eligible for bottle prizes or fleet stickers, and the monthly club races are members-only.
I’ve never sailed. Is that a problem?
It’s the most common way people arrive. Get to the ramp around 5:30 on a Wednesday, find the race committee, and say you’d like to sail. You’ll be given a job that takes about ninety seconds to explain.

The membership year begins 1 January and dues are payable in advance for the full twelve months, whenever in the year you join.
What does the club expect from members?
Turn up, and take a turn. Club racing runs on a race-committee roster where each member takes a month, and regattas and social events are run by whoever volunteers. There’s no penalty for not doing it — it just works better when everyone pitches in.
Is there anything for young sailors?
Associate membership covers youth aged 16 to 21 and full-time students at $75, and the club is developing a youth sailing programme.
